Little Mountain Park
UnclaimedLittle Mountain Park is Salmon Arm's in-town escape: about 8 km of wide, smooth forest trails you can stitch into loops of almost any length. The highlight is the short climb up the Summit Trail to a Secwépemc landmark sculpture, where benches look out over Salmon Arm, Salmon Arm Bay, the Fly Hills and Kela7scen (Mount Ida). In spring, the west-facing bluffs are covered in wildflowers. Trail at a glance Distance: up to 8 km of figure-eight loops Time: 30 minutes to 2 hours Difficulty: Easy to more difficult (the Summit Trail is the steepest part) Trailheads: east end of Okanagan Avenue off 30 Street SE; the southwest corner of the Little Mountain Fieldhouse parking lot on 30 Street SE; or just south of 37 Street SE on 10 Avenue SE Good to know It's a great choice for families, quick after-work walks and winter outings close to town. Bears are occasionally seen in the park, so keep an eye out. The trails are maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance. Little Mountain is a public park rather than a business, so there's no owner to claim this page — the City of Salmon Arm or trail volunteers can contact The Shuswap Loop with updates.

Salmon Arm Foreshore Trail
UnclaimedRight on the edge of downtown, the Foreshore Trail follows the shore of Salmon Arm Bay through one of the Interior's most important migratory bird estuaries. Wide paths and boardwalks lead to a viewing platform for birdwatching, and a side trail heads out to Christmas Island for open views across the bay. It's an easy, mostly flat walk that's lovely in any season. Trail at a glance Distance: 4 km one way Time: 1+ hour one way Difficulty: Easy to more difficult (some sections get rocky, wet or uneven) Trailhead: east end of Harbourfront Drive; parking is limited, so consider parking at Marine Peace Park and walking over on the SABNES East Walkway Dog rules No dogs at all from May 1 to June 30 (nesting season) The rest of the year, dogs are allowed on the main trail only, on a short leash No dogs on the viewing decks or Christmas Island This is protected riparian habitat — stay on the trail and respect seasonal flooding closures. The trail is part of the Salmon Arm Nature Bay trails, maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance with the Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society (SABNES). As a public nature trail, there's no business owner to claim this listing; SABNES or the trail alliance can contact The Shuswap Loop with updates.

White Lake Lookout Trail
UnclaimedThe White Lake Lookout Trail delivers one of the South Shuswap's best views for relatively little distance. The best viewpoint comes just 1 km up the trail, where a picnic spot looks down over White Lake and Little White Lake, out across the Tappen Valley to Mount Ida. Keep climbing and the trail tops out at a radio tower and forestry landing 2.5 km from the start. Trail at a glance Distance: 2.5 km one way; best viewpoint at 1 km Difficulty: Most difficult (steep, narrow sections) Trailhead: about 9.3 km east of Sorrento, turn onto Balmoral Road, then White Lake Road behind the Balmoral Store; park at the John Evdokimoff Bike Park, about 7 km along White Lake Road Use: hiking and mountain biking Good to know The trail is shared with mountain bikers, so stay alert on the narrow sections. In spring, look for chocolate lilies, glacier lilies and arnica; in summer, watch for bears near wild strawberry patches. A memorial plaque near the trail honours local mountain biker Jonathan Halper. This is a public trail maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance, so there's no owner to claim this page — updates on conditions are always welcome.

Balmoral Trail System
UnclaimedThe Balmoral trails are the South Shuswap's go-to spot for anything from a quick forest stroll to a full-day ridge hike. Short loops near the parking lot suit families and dog walkers, while the climb to the Balmoral Bluffs rewards you with views across Blind Bay toward Mount Ida and Sorrento. Along the way, look for the system's landmark old-growth fir. Trail at a glance Loops: 0.5–4 km round trip, easy to more difficult Longer traverses: White Lake (about 8 km one way) and Blind Bay Bluffs (about 6 km one way), plus a ridge link north to McArthur Heights Trailhead: about 9.3 km east of Sorrento, turn north on Balmoral Road and drive 1.5 km — the parking lot is on the right before the Alpen Paradies subdivision Good to know Once you head beyond the main loops you're on longer hiking routes, so bring water and be prepared. Bug spray is a good idea in early summer. The system is maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance. Because this is a public trail network, there's no business to claim this listing — trail stewards can contact The Shuswap Loop to keep the details current.

McArthur Heights Trail
UnclaimedMcArthur Heights is a short but seriously steep climb above Blind Bay. In just 1.7 km the trail zig-zags up switchbacks, scree and exposed rock to a summit with sweeping views of Blind Bay, the South Shuswap, Squilax and Chase, with Todd Mountain at Sun Peaks on the horizon. Plan on roughly an hour up. Trail at a glance Distance: 1.7 km one way from the McArthur Heights trailhead Difficulty: Most difficult Trailhead: turn north onto Balmoral Road, right on Reedman Point Road, left on McBride Road, then follow it to the end of the road and park Longer option: continue about 8 km south along the ridge to the Balmoral Lookout and arrange a shuttle at the Balmoral trailhead Good to know The trail is narrow and exposed, with loose rock and steep drop-offs — keep children well back, and don't cut switchbacks on the erosion-prone slope. Poles help on the descent. The trail is maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance. McArthur Heights is a public trail rather than a business, so there's no owner to claim this page; trail volunteers can reach The Shuswap Loop to share closures or updates.

Tplaqín (Enderby Cliffs) Trail
UnclaimedThe Enderby Cliffs are the dramatic rock face you see rising above Enderby, and the Tplaqín Trail takes you to the top. The route climbs steadily for 6.5 km (one way) through forest and switchbacks to viewpoints looking over Enderby, the Shuswap River valley and the North Okanagan. Turkey vultures and bald eagles are often seen riding the updrafts along the cliffs. Trail at a glance Distance: 6.5 km one way (13 km return) Time: 2+ hours each way Difficulty: More difficult Trailhead: from Enderby, cross the Shuswap River onto Mabel Lake Road, go 2 km east, turn left on Brash Allen Road, keep right at the fork and follow the gravel road to the provincial park parking area Good to know The upper trail runs along steep, exposed edges with loose dirt and rock — keep children well back and expect slippery footing when wet. There's no water on the trail, so carry plenty. Tplaqín is an important sacred area for the Splatsin te Secwépemc, and the trail is cared for by Splatsin, BC Parks and the Shuswap Trail Alliance; please stay on the trail to limit erosion. As a public provincial park trail, there's no owner to claim this listing — park and trail stewards are welcome to contact The Shuswap Loop with condition updates.

Margaret Falls Trail
UnclaimedMargaret Falls is the Shuswap's best-loved short hike. From the parking lot on Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road, a 500-metre trail follows Reinecker Creek into a narrow, moss-draped canyon of old-growth forest and ends at a viewing platform beside the falls. It's an easy, family-friendly walk inside Herald Provincial Park, about 12 km along Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road from the Trans-Canada Highway between Salmon Arm and Sorrento. Trail at a glance Margaret Falls trail: 500 m one way, easy Lower park loops: 1–3 km, easy, with some wheelchair-accessible sections Upper Canyon loop: 2.8 km, more difficult, climbing above the falls with views of Shuswap Lake Parking: Margaret Falls lot (north side of the road) or the Herald Park day-use area (south side) Good to know The east side of the Upper Canyon loop is hiking only because the hillside is steep and erosion-prone. The canyon is a sensitive area, so stay on the main trail. Pair the walk with a swim at Herald Park's beach on hot summer days. This is a public trail in a BC provincial park, so there's no business owner to claim this page — BC Parks or the Shuswap Trail Alliance can contact The Shuswap Loop to update trail conditions.
