The Pillar at Pillar Lake
UnclaimedThe Pillar is one of the Shuswap's most unusual natural landmarks: a column of conglomerate rock nearly 20 metres tall with a massive boulder balanced on top, standing on the hillside above Pillar Lake. The hike to it is short but steep, and it's clearly marked. Walk a little past the base and you can look at the capstone almost at eye level. Trail at a glance Distance: short out-and-back hike Difficulty: steep, with rocky, narrow footing in places Location: Pillar Lake on Chase-Falkland Road, reached from Highway 97 at Falkland Parking: at the Pillar Lake day-use area; the trailhead is across the road Good to know The Pillar is fragile — signs at the site ask visitors not to climb it, and its stability is uncertain, so admire it from the trail. Afterwards, Pillar Lake is a calm spot for a paddle or a swim, and there's a small boat launch. The Pillar is a natural landmark rather than a business, so there's no owner to claim this listing; local stewards can contact The Shuswap Loop with access updates.

Evelyn Falls Trail
UnclaimedEvelyn Falls is a North Shuswap favourite: a short out-and-back hike through cool forest above Anglemont that ends at a secluded, multi-tiered waterfall. It's an easy pairing with an afternoon at nearby Lakeview Park on Shuswap Lake for a picnic and a swim. Trail at a glance Distance: 3 km round trip Time: allow up to 2 hours with time at the falls Difficulty: More difficult (steady climb with switchbacks) Trailhead: about 41.6 km north of Highway 1 on Squilax-Anglemont Road, turn north onto Golf Course Road; parking is just past the fire hall on the right Good to know Stay on the trail and don't climb around the falls — the area is sensitive wetland habitat, with slippery rocks and steep ledges. Don't cut through the private airstrip to reach the trail. In winter the falls can freeze over, and the trail gets icy. Nearby hikes include Herman Lake and Crowfoot Mountain. The trail is maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance. This is a public trail, so there's no owner to claim this page — trail stewards can contact The Shuswap Loop to share current conditions.

Copper Island Trail
UnclaimedFew hikes start with a paddle, which is exactly what makes Copper Island special. Sitting about 2 km off the beach at Shuswap Lake Provincial Park in Scotch Creek, the island has a 2.5 km loop trail that climbs to its summit for panoramic views of Shuswap Lake and Blind Bay. Most visitors make a half-day of it: paddle or boat across, hike the loop, then cool off on the island's small beaches. Trail at a glance Distance: 2.5 km loop Time: about 1 hour Difficulty: More difficult (steep in places) Access: water only — launch from Shuswap Lake Provincial Park in Scotch Creek, off Squilax-Anglemont Road, and land at the east-side beach Good to know No camping and no fires on the island There are steep cliffs — stay well back from the edges Watch for boat traffic when crossing, and check wind conditions before setting out in a canoe, kayak or on a paddleboard Bring everything you need, and pack out all garbage Copper Island is public parkland, so there's no business owner to claim this listing — BC Parks or trail stewards can contact The Shuswap Loop with updates.

Scatchard Mountain Switchbacks Trail
UnclaimedStarting right from town, the Scatchard Mountain Switchbacks climb an old hand-built road above Chase to a string of viewpoints over the village, Chase Creek Canyon and Chase Creek Road. Watch the hillsides across the canyon — Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep are regular visitors. Highlights include Odin's Lookout and "Attila's Lane," a looped section that follows the original switchbacked road. Trail at a glance Distance: 4.5 km one way Time: about 1 hour one way Difficulty: More difficult Trailhead: turn south off Highway 1 at the Argo equipment yard (opposite Chase's middle entrance) and park at the cemetery trailhead kiosk; access may be affected by highway construction A trail with history A side trail named Scenc ckwimeméws — "rocky narrow path" in Secwepemctsín — was developed with Secwépemc leadership and crosses an abandoned roadbed hand-built from large rocks in the early 1900s. The trail is maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance. As a public trail, there's no business owner to claim this listing — trail stewards can reach The Shuswap Loop to keep conditions up to date.

Sicamous Creek Falls Trail
UnclaimedSicamous Creek Falls is one of the quickest waterfall payoffs in the Shuswap. Just minutes from the parking lot, a short path drops to a viewing area beside the falls, while a second trail leads down to the creek and a shaded picnic spot below. On a hot summer day, the hemlock forest and rushing creek keep things noticeably cooler. Trail at a glance Waterfall Trail: 70 m to the falls viewing area Creek Trail: 150 m to the creek and picnic area Upper Loop: 2 km round trip via switchbacks and a forest service road Total time: 30 minutes to 1 hour Trailhead: 3.6 km south of Sicamous on Highway 97A (east side of Mara Lake) — turn left onto Two Mile Road and drive 400 m to the parking lot Good to know There are steep, dangerous drops beside parts of the trail. Stay on the paths, respect the guardrails at the falls and don't cut across switchbacks. The trails are maintained by the Shuswap Trail Alliance. This is a public trail, not a business, so there's no owner to claim this listing — local trail stewards can contact The Shuswap Loop with condition updates.

Mount Ida (Kela7scen)
UnclaimedMount Ida is the craggy, palisade-like mountain that dominates Salmon Arm's southern skyline. Rising to 1,574 metres, it's known to the Secwépemc people as Kela7scen — a name referring to its unusually coloured rocks — and is considered sacred ground. For hikers, it's the big local objective: a long climb rewarded with sweeping views over Salmon Arm, Salmon Arm Bay and Shuswap Lake. Good to know Routes to the top use forest service roads and informal trails that can be rough, steep and washed out in places — high-clearance vehicles are recommended if driving any of the approach. Expect a full-day outing if you hike from the valley; carry water, bug spray and a map or GPS track. The mountain's trails are currently the focus of the Kle7scéñ (Mt. Ida) Working Group with the Shuswap Trail Alliance, so check shuswaptrails.com for the latest route and access information before you go. Please treat Kela7scen with respect as a culturally significant place and stay on established routes. Mount Ida is public land rather than a business, so there's no owner to claim this page. Trail stewards are welcome to contact The Shuswap Loop to add official trailhead and route details.
