Hero to a Child is a Clearwater nonprofit that supports children and young adults in foster care across Pinellas and Pasco counties. Founded in 1989 and formerly known as the Guardian ad Litem Foundation, it works alongside court-appointed guardians ad litem to make sure kids in the child welfare system have what they need to feel safe, supported and ready for what's next.
What they do
- Children's Needs Program: a resource for guardians ad litem and child advocates who need help meeting a child's needs, from everyday essentials to activities that give kids a sense of normal life.
- Courthouse Facility Dog: a trained companion that brings comfort to children during court.
- Adulting 101 Teen Conference: life-skills programming for teens preparing for adulthood.
- Guardian ad Litem support: help for the volunteers who speak up for children in court.
- Holiday programs: gift drives such as Light the Season, which bring the holidays to children in care.
